So how dangerous is mold? Most everyone has heard of the “Black Mold” or “Toxic Mold” and there is definitely plenty of hype about it. Stachybotrys is what people are referring to primarily although there are plenty of black molds that aren’t Stachybotrys. Like certain other types of mold, Stachy releases mycotoxins which can have toxigenic characteristics. These mycotoxins have been linked, although sometimes weakly, to unique or rare health conditions such as pulmonary hemorrhage or memory loss. These reports are rare, and a causal link between the presence of the toxigenic mold and these conditions has not been proven. It isn’t uncommon, however, to have reactions to this and other types of mold which cause allergic or asthmatic in symptoms. So, is your mold dangerous? That is a question that nobody can likely answer with certainty and should be discussed with your doctor. That being said, because of the potential hazards, it is wise to treat all molds with caution and respect.
